The WRS Introductory Course is delivered in three consecutive days and presented by a Wilson Credentialed Trainer®. The course provides an introduction to the newest Wilson Reading System, 4th Edition and serves as a prerequisite for WRS Level I Certification. It examines reading research and the five areas of reading in relationship to students in grade two and above with persistent phonological coding deficits.

Participants learning about dyslexia, appropriate student identification and placement, program implementation, progress monitoring, scheduling and creating a successful learning environment. Principles of language structure and how to teach language with direct multisensory methods are demonstrated and practiced during the workshop. Participants explore the standard 10-part Wilson® Lesson Plan and practice planning and delivery a lesson while receiving modeling and feedback from a Wilson Credential Trainer® during the course. Upon completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Define dyslexia and describe common characteristics
  • Explain the process of identifying appropriate student and placing them in the Wilson Reading System® (WRS)
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of WRS principles of instruction: explicit, sequential, cumulative, and diagnostic multisensory instruction.
  • Identify the lesson components for Block 1 (Decoding/Word Study), Bock 2 (Encoding/Spelling), and Bock 3 (Listening & Reading Comprehension) of the WRS Lesson Plan.
  • Prepare a 10-part WRS Lesson Plan
  • Identify the lesson components for Block 1(Decoding/Word Study), Block 2 (Encoding/Spelling), and Block 3 (Listening & Reading Comprehension) of the WRS Lesson Plan.

Participants may enroll in the WRS Level I Certification Training or the WRS Intensive Instruction: For the Non-Responsive Reader (Steps 1-6) Online course within 5 years of completing a WRS Introductory course.

Cost: WRS Introductory Course (3 days) – $649/person. To get the most out of the training a WRS Introductory Kit is highly recommended, or at minimum an Instructor's Training Manual. These can be purchased directly from Wilson Language Training®. We suggest you purchase one of these and have it available during the class.

Course Duration: 3 consecutive days (CEU 16.5 Hours).

Graduate Credit:- One graduate credit (optional) is available through Fitchburg State University, Fitchburg, MA. Please contact them directly upon completion of course requirements to process for graduate credit.

A confirmation letter will be sent upon registration. While we make every effort to conduct professional learning events on the dates and locations advertised, they are subject to change. Southeast Reading Center (SRC) reserves the right to change or cancel a professional learning event due to low enrollment or factors beyond our control. We will attempt to notify registrants to limit customer inconvenience, but we are not liable for any expenses incurred.

Registration is required before the event and is processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment is due at the time of registration. Payment is refundable up to 14 days prior to the event date, less a $25 processing fee.
